“The USOPC values the voices of Team USA athletes and believes that their right to advocate for racial and social justice, and be a positive force for change, absolutely aligns with the fundamental values of equality that define Team USA and the Olympic and Paralympic movements,” USOPC chief executive Sarah Hirshland said in a statement.
Nov 27 (Reuters) – General Motors Co is planning to apply for a banking charter bus that would allow its lending unit to hold deposits and expand its auto-finance business, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Moore and Alexander scored seven and six points, respectively, during the surge when the Red Storm made seven of 10 shots. The Hoyas, over the same span, were 1-for-9 shooting, 1-for-5 from deep. John’s took control with an 18-5 run over four-plus minutes midway through the second half, building a 76-57 lead.
The automaker’s finance arm, General Motors Financial Company Inc, has been talking to federal and state banking regulators for months about forming an industrial loan company and could file its applications as early as December, the report said website “Industrial Loan Company” charters allow non-banks to originate loans and collect insured deposits.
Champagnie added nine rebounds as the Red Storm avenged a three-point loss to the Hoyas a week earlier. Julian Champagnie, the Big East Conference leading scorer, added 20 points and also hit four 3-pointers. Williams shot 4 for 6 from behind the arc.

On foot, members of Iraq’s Tahawer (Dialogue) initiative and other volunteers delivered some 1,400 cards across the northern town, which was ravaged by jihadist rule after the Islamic State group advanced east across the Nineveh Plain
The USOPC’s decision came in response to recommendations from an athlete-led council seeking change to Rule 50 of the Olympic charter bus which prohibits any kind of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda.
Earlier on Wednesday, defence attorney Richard Peck wrapped up two days of cross-examination of RCMP Constable Winston Yep, questioning him on the intentions behind Meng’s initial detainment by CBSA officials and then her arrest by the RCMP.
VANCOUVER/TORONTO, Oct 28 (Reuters) – A Canadian border officer told a court on Wednesday he had concerns about intercepting and interviewing Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou before police arrested her on a warrant from the United States almost two years ago.
Lawyers for Meng have alleged that abuses of process occurred during the three hours between Meng being intercepted by CBSA and arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that led to her civil rights being violated.
He and other officers “knew this was going to be a big deal” once he realized that Meng was a high-profile person with a U.S.
arrest warrant out for her. Kirkland said he suggested CBSA skip its interview and instead simply identify Meng and hand her over to the RCMP.
Dec 10 (Reuters) – The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) said on Thursday it will not sanction athletes for peacefully and respectfully demonstrating in support of racial and social justice.
“There was concerns of possible Charter issues being raised if we’re going to court and at the time I assumed we’d go to court,” Kirkland said, referring to Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms which outline civil rights guaranteed to anyone in the country, citizen or otherwise.
Meng’s arrest triggered an ongoing chill in diplomatic relations between Ottawa and Beijing. Soon after her detention, China arrested Canadian citizens Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig on espionage charges.
